Purple - The Colour of Luxury?

Posted on February 25, 2017 by Amanda Hellard | 0 comments

I've seen and read a lot about colour meanings. Why? Because when we shop we're drawn to certain colours as it evokes certain emotions. For example: Red is a very emotionally intense colour as it raises blood pressure and increases our respiration rate. This is why we're so drawn to red colours, especially when we think of getting something sexy. Another example: Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. Usually when shopping we buy something yellow or orange because when we wear it, it brightens our day.

Okay, back to the reason for this blog post. I read the other day that purple is the colour of luxury and is associated with royalty. I never noticed how true that really is. We don't have as much royalty nowadays BUT we still have the British Hierarchy. When something significant is happening, they wear purple and a lot of their significant crowns and jewellery have purple in them.

We see a lot of different pieces when we decide what to bring into the store but this really stood out to me. I think certain colours need to be done justice and purple is definitely one them. We are VERY choosy when it comes to our purples. This season we brought in the Hidden Purple collection from Marlies Dekkers and I remember when we saw it we both looked at each other and knew that this was it. It's the perfect combination of luxury and functionality.
